My Excel contacts aren’t converting properly to VCF what am I missing?

I’ve been trying to convert my Excel contacts into a VCF file, but the results are always inconsistent. Some contacts are missing fields, some phone numbers break into separate digits, and a few names show strange symbols after conversion. I tried several Excel to VCF Converter tools, but each gives different results. My Excel sheet has custom headers like “Client_Name” and “Mobile_1”, so maybe the mapping isn’t being detected correctly. I’m not sure if the problem is with my Excel formatting or the converter I’m using. Before I waste more time testing random tools, can someone explain what a proper Excel file should look like before starting the Convert Excel to VCF process?

Hey,

Nearly‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ all the problems that you have are due to the formatting within the Excel file rather than the converter. VCF files are very strict, so even minor errors can result in fields that are missing or broken. Your sheet should then have the following points:

Use simple column names like Name, Phone, and Email.

Set phone numbers to “Text” format.

Remove blank rows or merged cells.

Make sure there are no hidden characters or emojis.

Always save the file in XLS or XLSX format before running an XLSX to VCF converter.

In case you want to have flexible field mapping, the users of the WholeClear Excel to vCard Converter tool can manually match each column with a vCard field; thus, there will be no issue with custom headers. Even the ones that charge no fee for the Excel to vCard Converter work well if your sheet is well prepared. Proper formatting almost always resolves conversion ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌errors.
